Abstract

This study aims to determine the position, color, shape and size of the eggs of the prospective queen H. itama. Observations were made in 4 boxes selected by purposive sampling using quantitative descriptive methods. The results of the study showed that the position of the eggs of the prospective queen H. itama is in the middle of the nest which is the most protected area and usually has stable conditions and makes it easier for worker bees to provide better care such as feeding. The eggs of the prospective H. itama are oval and cream-colored for the top layer while the bottom layer is light brown. The eggs of the prospective queen H. itama are larger than the eggs of the prospective workers or males. The average length of the eggs of the prospective queen observed was 0.8 cm and had an average width ranging from 0.5 cm - 0.6 cm.Keywords: heterotrigona itama, eggs of prospective queens, characteristics
